Part 1 & 2 - Project and Documentation

Aggressive: In the time machine the traveler is confronted by savage, ape-like creatures, called Morlocks, who only emerge at night to capture and later feed on the Eloi. This is what my design represents, the design is very confronting and the Morlock itself is in an aggressive poise as if he was about to strike somebody. I used a black background not only to suggest the night, but also the evil intentions of the Morlock. The typeface i have used "Episode I", it is a serif, in uppercase as it is confronting, along with the image and portrays an agressive style. It is very strong and hard not to notice, the colour red is associated with aggression and i believe that it really emphasize this.

Passive: The Eloi, are very passive people they accept what happens to them, without any resistance (fightback). My design is very passive, i used an image which represents the the travelers first impression of the new world, with a peaceful society living together in harmony and bliss. The tree is just living in its surrounds untouched by man. The typeface i have used "Natural Log" it is wimpy like, in lowercase, together with the image it communicates a quiet message, i placed the title in the center because i wanted it to be the focal point in this design, as my imagery is the strongest passive element, i also wanted the type and image to be one, when i placed the type on the bottom, i was alienating the image and it became a struggle on the page, now the audience looks directly at the focal point. My typeface is not assertive, i would say submissive, as it has characterizations like the tree the different sized characters make its personality, but it is still alone, living, passively, in its surroundings.

Modern: Modern is minimal and straight to the point, my design presents a modern time machine with digital features, i incorporated the lights/beams shooting out to show the device in use, and to add excitement. My typeface is "Helvetica Neue, Ultra Light", a very modern sans-serif, its clean, simple yet so effective. By using a white background i drew more attention to the other elements on the page but also emphasized and maintained that clean, simplistic feel associated with the term modern.

Retro: Retro is between 1960's to 70's, my design is based on the 70's retro as it uses distinct features associated with retro designs. Clique colours, funky vibes, cool smooth circles and sleek lines. My colours are intense and this design draws attention to itself through them. My type is "Keep on Trucking" very 70's and groovy, it had characteristics associated with the 70's like bell bottom jeans. The circle represents a clock and the numbers swirling around give it that extra trippy retro style.

Classic: My design is based on vintage classic posters in particular the Porche ones. These vintage Porsche posters are very good examples of old-fashion graphic design they emphasize great images mixed with classic typography. In my design i used geometric shapes in the background to represent the time dimensions, i only used two, to represent the past and future and when the combine they are the present. The shapes also draw attention to the classic black and whit picture of the traveler and his time machine, also (black and white representing the past and the coloured lights of the machine the future). I used the typeface "Eurostile" a classic display font, it is a geometric sans-serif and a strong element in my design, i re-enforced this strength with the black box around the title, communicating the message louder, i made the characters spaces minimal and in a lowercase because it was aesthetically pleasing and also carries on the combining of elements.

Monotone: My design is based on the seriousness of the traveler, monotone means a single or unvaried tone, in this case it relates to the use of colour, in my design i have used an image and with its placement and the monotone style, it makes it more intense and confronting. The use of a nearly symmetrical evenly balanced black and white layout emphasizes the monotone effect. The type faced used is "New Gothic Style" a serious, solid one toned element, because it has no details like the image it stands out more surrounded by black and is the focal point in this design.

Futuristic: In reference with my book, which is about time travel, it is one of the very early sci-fi themes. My design is based on the digital future, and the unknown (which is evident in the book), My image is strong and very futuristic, it represents the traveler, as he is about to travel through time, he is stepping into the future, the unknown. I used a digital typeface "Digital 7" to emphasize the future that being a digital word, the colour green used in this way is not organic with the hash lights is very computer like generating energy, laser beams which is usually associated with the future.

Dynamic: My design is based on static movement and how one image when treated properly can me made to seem like it is moving. My design is dynamic, as the traveler is moving through time, forward to the future with the arrows pointing upwards this also directs the audience to the title, the typeface is "Slant" which also dynamic as it uses slanted lines representing movement.

Grungy: My design is based on the broken, dirty, distorted feel associated with the grunge style, its dark and noisy. My colours are grunge themed going from dark blacks and blues to an off-white/grey. The image is on a warped clock representing time. My typeface is "Calame" which is loud not only because of its colour, it is bold and in uppercase but also because it is a display typeface. The typeface is rough and worn like the grunge style.
