So we were asked to have a go at "Pattern work?" I enjoyed this on the pc rather than by hand because im not very skilled with detailed drawings at all...but it did get very frustrating, i think doing this sort of thing by hand is very relaxing (i don't know why but all the lines and planning reminded me of building plans because in this sort of thing everything has a place and purpose). Also i thought because it was being made on the computer (copy and paste) that it wouldn't take long to do and it would not be meaningful than one done by hand however that depends on how much detail you want and i think i finished it quickly only because i had planned before hand but then i had to adjust and change my plans. This was the frustrating part however i enjoyed it alot and i think i will continue to study this sort of art when i get the chance to. I looked at a little bit of Escher's work and his planning and what he turned shapes into this stuff truly amazes me.
Here is my Computer generated "pattern": It reminds me of Stars and Planets so i call it "Constellation".
So what i gained from this exercise was attention to detail however the main idea of this exercise i think other than to study "patterns" (I will refer to this type of work as patterns because i don't really know what the real/right name for it is.) and gain an insight was to practice theme, variation, repetition and tessellation.
My Theme initially was the circle shape however i had to change it to include the triangle shape because it didn't look as good when i followed my plan so i changed it. My Variation was the different sizes and positions of my shapes, my Repetition (i think is obvious)of the shapes and my Tessellation of the shapes covering the A3 space. Overall i did rush so there may be gaps or mistakes that i can't see because if your staring at something especially this for so long you don't notice the mini errors....but please let me know if something isn't right so i can fix it.
